MAIN PAGE > WHY WOOD > HUMAN HEALTH

Did you know that a lot of artificial materials that you live with, contain risks for your health?

Wood is a material that has positive effects on human health and immune system since it maintains domestic balance of humidity. Due to its high surface temperature, it is possible to maintain a favorable room temperature against minor fluctuations of temperature. This situation is perceived as a feeling of comfort by people in the room. High surface temperature also prevents condensation.

Wood has high sensible temperature which means that it requires more heat to change its temperature when compared to other materials. This has a balancing effect in terms of room temperature.

Static electricity, which has negative effects on human health, has not been observed in wood. However, this is a problem with metals, plastics and other materials. Therefore, wood is suggested as a healthy material. Wood, as the oldest construction material mankind knows is friendly to our health in all ways. It is not possible to say the same things for PVC and MDF.

PVC production is based on chlorine which is an enemy of the environment, on vinylchloride monomer and ethylenedichloride which causes cancer. People living around PVC production factories are subject to serious toxic materials in water and air. During PVC production, a lot of different additives that provide stability and ease-of use are used. Therefore, people are exposed to phthalate, lead , cadmium, tin and other toxic materials when using and disposing  PVC products. Dioxin which comes out when PVC is burned is one of the most toxic materials known on earth.

Fiber boards that are called as HDF and MDF, and that are produced by bonding wood fibers with urea formaldehyde resin are commonly used in furniture, parquet, kitchen cabinet doors and doors since they are inexpensive. Doors made by using spaced door skins (made of wood fiber) imitate actual door elements like door posts and panels. Some doors on the other hand are entirely produced from MDF. The formaldehyde resin contained in all these products constantly releases formaldehyde which is a known carcinogen. Therefore, people all around the world become conscious about replacing fiber-board products with solid wood alternatives.

There is an unrivaled and natural harmony between wood and human psychology. Since wood does not carry electrostatic load and because of its natural warmth, touching wood or simply being in the same space with it rises positive feelings in humans. This interaction is generally in the reverse direction with synthetic materials such as PVC and MDF which carry electrostatic load and release poisonous gases for human beings and nature when burnt. Wood windows and doors make a person feel relaxed and serene at home.
